We’re all about discovering new products for achieving that perfect glowing skin. But with the endless amount of products in each step of the routine, you can’t help but wonder: what skincare steps are necessarily for your daytime routine? Here’s 4 steps that we think are essential for flawless skin.
This goes without saying: cleansing is a must. Even if you’re not wearing makeup, the accumulated sweat, dirt, oils, and grime can contribute to dullness, clogged pores, and even acne. Cleansing is also a skincare step that sets the foundation for your other skincare steps afterwards. So it’s important to make sure your face is clean so that the rest of your routine can act well.
What cleansers should you look for?
Cleansers with pH levels close to your skin’s pH level (4.5-5.5) are great for cleansing without leaving your skin feeling stripped, tight or dry. They also contain moisturizing ingredients that can help hydrate the skin and leave it feeling comfortable afterwards.
When it comes to making sure your skin is hydrated and clear, serums are great to use after cleansing. For those who aren’t familiar, serums are bottles that contain potent ingredients to help target acne, dryness, wrinkles, and dullness. Using a vitamin C serum is one of the best things you can add to your daytime routine. Not only is vitamin C a powerful antioxidant ingredient, but it also works to brighten up your skin tone, stimulate collagen production, and work with your sunscreen to add an extra boost of skin protection.
Healthy skin is all about hydration. When your skin is hydrated and plump, you’ll be more likely to see glowing skin year round. Likewise, when your skin is lacking moisture, you’ll notice dried patches, irritation, and even an overall dull complexion. We definitely don’t want that. And here’s a fact you might not have known: our skin regularly loses moisture through evaporation. This process is also known as Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL). When we apply moisturizer, we’re not only slowing down the water evaporating from our skin, but we’re also creating a barrier to keep that moisture in our skin.
For every skin type, sunscreen is an absolute must for ending your daytime routines. The reasoning lies in the sun’s ultraviolet rays. These UV rays might seem harmless, but with prolonged exposure over the course of years, the sun can cause damage to the skin inside-out. Not to mention that if you’re a chemical exfoliant user, the sun’s UV rays can cause irritation and other unpleasant effects on the skin. So using sunscreen can help prolong your skin’s youthful appearance. Be sure to find one that feels good applying it on!
